NAPA COUNTY - JUNE 2022
The climate crisis is no longer imminent. It is here. It is not someone else’s problem. It is ours. Fires, drought, heat spikes will continue to strike our industry. Coming together as sustainable winegrowing leaders is no longer optional, it is imperative.
Napa growers and vintners can play an active role in building social equity, conserving natural resources, reducing and drawing down GHG emissions and creating more resilient vineyards, businesses and communities.
Our region and wines capture global attention, meaning our leadership can be an outsized force for change.
To establish the first cross-organizational series of events, paired with sustained support and mentorship, that will not only inspire and educate, but facilitate and accelerate regional critical mass action.
This is a changemaking convening to enable the Napa County wine industry to leverage its powerful leadership platform and set a standard for sustainability and climate action that galvanizes the global wine industry.
Carriage House, Charles Krug Winery
The Grove, Raymond Vineyards
This is a different kind of convening. There will be a series of six half-day, tightly focused events organized around the Six Pillars of Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership:
Marquee Speaker: Eric Asimov, Wine Critic, The New York Times
Marquee Speaker: Bill McKibben, Co-founder 350.org. Latest Book: The Flag, The Cross, and the Station Wagon
Marquee Speaker: TBD
Marquee Speaker: TBD
Marquee Speaker: TBD
Marquee Roundtable: with Kimberly Nicholas, Sustainability Scientist, Lund University, and Author, Under the Sky We Make and Jonathan Foley, Executive Director, Project Drawdown
Each event will have: Two “Get Your Hands Dirty” workshop options; a Marquee Speaker; and one Strategic Panel.
AND the events are just the beginning. Dedicated facilitators and mentors will follow-up with participants to provide direct support, tools and funding strategies to transition opportunities to reality.
This convening will culminate in a black-tie gala that will raise money for ongoing sustainability and climate action leadership in Napa County. The Campaign will be Action-Oriented, Compelling, and, most critically, Sustained.
If not here, where? Napa County can and should be the industry leader in sustainability and climate action and leverage its powerful platform for broader change. Alone, our capacity to impact global industry challenges is relatively limited.
Collectively, unified under a common goal, we can harness our opportunities and influence to serve as a force to transform the industry.
